Sounds like it was a pet, and that it never was in the wild—that was apparently just a fish/alligator story.

If Alligators could live in the Delta, they would be there. Crocodiles and Alligators have been around for 37 million years. There's a reason they live in the south.

If I come across an alligator while walking by the river of course I would catch it and tape its mouth and load it in a trailer!

Yea, I’m trying to picture that…seems to me like the guy with the gator in the truck watched too many episodes of swamp people!

I’m sort of feeling like it’s way more likely he made up the part about finding it on the river and probably was just getting rid of a pet that had become too much to handle
