Happy Easter Everyone!

My buddy was having a pretty good day -- at first light a Wahoo, then a nice King Mackerel.

But then around 10 am off Boca Raton, Florida in 200ft of water while he was putting out a live bait to troll, his kayak got nudged. He didn't see what nudged him, but in the next instance, his kayak was hit so hard, that it flipped. He did not get a good look at it, but it was a greyish shark.

The next few minutes in the water expecting the shark to return were some of the scariest of his life!

The shark did not return. His closeby buddy allowed him to climb on the back of his kayak until they were able to flip his kayak upright.

The day went from good to horrible as my buddy lost 5 fishing outfits and a GoPro camera that was on, and might have otherwise had some viral video of the shark hit.

His outback Kayak had some teeth marks, one of which punctured all the way through and slowly leaked water as he headed back to the beach.

Having been attacked 4 times on the kayak by Hammerheads, this shark did not stay on the surface like Hammerheads normally do. The other most aggressive shark in this area is a Bull Shark, but bulls are brown in color.

This attack is very similar to those of California by the Great White Sharks.
But a group of us have been fishing this area for many years, and have never seen a Great White.

Then one buddy did a check on the Shark Tracker App, and Guess what!

It looks like the 12ft 4" 1200lb male Great White Shark named IRONBOUND happened to be off Boca Raton today.

I think I am going to load that app on my phone for future reference.

Intense! I’m glad nobody is hurt.
It looks like he didn’t ikejime his catch. If that’s the case, then their pulses might have attracted the shark. And it does seem like this is the location where the shark hit. Any thoughts?

In the GWS encounters in NorCal, at least from what I know, the shark has bitten the bow of the kayak. And the speculation around this is territorial instinct.

I’m no expert on this by any means so would love to hear what others think.

theres been a couple where there`s the Polaris missle  approach .. GWS swims vertical , hitting the hull underneath and  flipping the kayak . last one I remember was Ghan up at Ocean Cove the day after the Simply Fishing tourney. Left a round dent in his kayak I believe .

I don't know if it's true, but I read somewhere that in those kinds of attacks, the shark tends to hit more towards the stern, as that's where they aim for when attacking seals/sea lions, since that'll immobilize them.

Yeah, that was a wild one. Ghan (Gary) was certainly shook by it. On the day before (Tourney day - Saturday) while fishing around in the cove, two separate times, I’d heard water moving behind me, I turned around and there were swirls in the water some 8-10 yards behind me. I didn't see any animal tho. I thought at the time maybe a sea lion, but after Sundays encounter I wondered if it was a juvenile WS doing practice runs?

I had slept in on Sunday and didn’t join the early group going out from our group camp. I got up and got ready, was just about to wheel down the hill when Gary and some others came back, at first I thought the fishing was so good they called it early, then heard the story. I decided to stay in land!
