Since it seems many are talking about them, what are the best options out there for kayakers wanting to buy an electric reel?  Searching Tackledirect I see this as the smallest cheapest one:

https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-dendoh-power-assist-reels-tanacom-500.html

Seems to have some neat features from the video, not sure if others have them or not.

What are. you guys looking at buying?

Other than Monterey Canyon I can't imagine kayaking far enough in NorCal to need an electric reel -- where are you thinking about fishing?

Cheers,
Brad

Looks like all you need is a drill!

I wonder how long the battery will last you? Would also suck to drop it into the water, which is a pretty likely scenario if you do it long enough. Maybe leash the drill to your vest?!  :smt044

Electric reels? How soft and degenerate are kayak anglers getting?  What will be next - electric motors on pedal kayaks?

I don't get the Desire to fish that deep.there's not going to be any fight, maybe for the first minute, then it is just a long slog.
I suppose if you want to fill the freezer?

I am hoping to find fish that are suspended in the deeper water that maybe haven't been disturbed since they haven't been targeted in the open ocean.

Looking more for yellow tail rockfish in the upper water column. Also looking to add to the freezer since no salmon take as well.

I don't add many to the freezer. I actually didn't freeze many last year with what I was able to take with salmon and  halibut catches. This year is a different story. I also set fish aside that I vacuum seal for my dad who rarely eats red  meat nowadays.

Do hope folks bring their descenders when fishing the deep water for fish they plan on releasing, other wise they really have no business fishing those depths. Should be no excuses to be next to someone and see fish floating that they didn't keep. :smt012

If you don't know how to use a descender, watch a video. On how too.

Cause I’m tired of sitting in a parking lot full of boats over shallow reefs killing 12-14” fish. I fished plenty before the depth restrictions…..deep water cod isn’t a new concept and I’ll be happy to go back to it.

I want an electric reel because of the two hook limits (necessitating more frequent retrieval), cause it opens up the options to fish sablefish, and cause I like cool toys………and cause I’m getting soft in my old age lol, the other day I bought a seat cushion for my office chair.  :smt005
