9/15 BH Report !!!!!

Another great day at the Hollow.....we shoulda made a day out of it with an after fishing BBQ...perhaps next week - conditions permit 

Fished straight out of the cove in 40 to 60 ft. and landed a few blues,blacks,chinas and coppers -  all released. Then I got into a school of reds and caught 2 in 2 drops with an iron. One was 25 inches long - and FAT - my biggest to date Had a 12 inch blue on my iron and as I was reeling it in, it got real HEAVY  ...I reel in slowly and find a 34 hitch hiking ling  I got the Ling in my net and went "LAPD"    on it.

Good to see everyone out there! Got to meet Ron and Steve = nice to finally meet you fellas  Cpyak even made a surprise appearance 

Congrats to the Fish Hunter for catching his target fish (Cabezon) and to Eric B for the Monster Ling of the day

pic1~ Peace Officer Mooch and his BE COOL STICK! it was just lookin for quick ride down the beach?  i thought hitchhicking along hwy1 was O.K.

pic2~ i guess it's frowned upon by the department and punishment is DEATH BY BEATING!...mooch is suffering from sunblock he rubbed into his eyes as he was getting his ling to sign the papers.

.....I told Bill that I was sorry for the things I said earlier and that I am a "BELIEVER" in the CabBuster and anything else you tell me I WILL BELIEVE! (sorry brudah Mooch, Bill knows more than you do, for now.) Hoping for an UPGRADE, I continue to hit the pre-determined depths and structure when all of a sudded this "THING" gets a hold of of my jig and damn near pulls me off my yak!..i got the drag TIGHTENED for instant removal from the rocks and this thing started peeling line?  Lingzilla comes to mind as my trevala pole gets doubled and touches yak-side...IT'S ON! i think and announce out loud, get it up to color and CABBIE # 2 is on and pullin good!..this thing pulled harder than the two lings i've got put together!
I wanted to go give Bill a kiss-n-hug but he said NO! so i bought him L&L instead.(best for both of us)

pic1~ 20" of TERROR!...and don't gill them like pictured either(I had my middle finger extruding from his mouth and when i put him into the water to release he CLAMPED DOWN-CLOSED GILLS and my hand and fingers were getting CRUSHED and CUT....OOUUCCHHH!! he paid me back GOOD) can you say sore and infected!

pic2~ a smaller one must of had a bad breakfast earlier, because when i had him up he "tossed chunks" and almost started a "chunk-toss chain reaction" right there on the spot, I had to look away for minute to gain my composure.

Glad to meet some of the guys for the first time---Mooch, Bill (Admin), FishHunter, Kayakito(Ramon), Kurt (Gordo).  I'm a newb to angling and like newb, some habits never die--- like going it alone on uncharted reef that Eric B. & Piscean, and I fished last time but was mind-boggling to me because it did not produced the BIG fish I was expecting---so I hit it again; well no luv there.  Next time, I'll stay nearby the pros, who time & again, catches some of the BIG fishes I'd seen landed on kayak (Eric B's, Gary's, Mooch's, Steve's, ...etc).

Well, this time I also lost one rigged, hooray!!! But I honestly think that my offer of (tiny cuts of squid per hook) was being ignored by the BIG fishes.  Thanks Gary for showing me how to rigged that frozen whole sardines---I rigged one too w/ frozen 'galungong' (don't know what you call that in English)---but I guess the 'galungong' was imported from the Philippines and it's not the local BH delicacy... damn BH fish.

showed the pics of me & Mooch to my wife and she retorted, "...when are you going to bring home BIG fishes like that???"  Well, w/ all the gear I sunk into this fishing sport, my wife is now asking for ROI (return on investment).  I haven't gone awol yet, and the thought of just jumping off the water to check out what's the bottom like has not crossed my mind yet; so I still have my sanity.

Congrats guys on the nice haul of fish!!!  I had a great time.

Kurt (Gordo), got your VM; no worries, I'm glad to hook up.  Ramon, glad to see that you got your vengeance this time and you are well rewarded for not giving up on BH.  Mooch, my fellow countryman, I'll trail behind you next time if you don't mind.

where is pigeon pt. and whats is south of it that holds fish?  cuz i'm hooked and need/want a BIG BLUE LING like Erics now!   it seems that there is always a *NEW kind of carrot dangling in front of me at all times and I LOVE IT!

Lo siento but Da Bean is North of Pigeon Pt by a few miles...D'OH! So that means it will close on Oct 1st.
Bummer.
But, on the bright side (if there is one), just think of the monster lings that we'll catch when it re-opens next July!!!

Pigeon Point is where the lighthouse is a few miles south of BH.  You can drift down there pretty quick from BH on a good drift day.  So I hear.  

I'm up for some southerly explorations if you are...  Davenport, perhaps?

Now you're talkin practically my front yard. I think the landing will be the spot for the rest of the season. Chances for fish there are not as good as Bean, but all the usual suspects can be found there.

Yeah Boy!...that's how I roll/drift!      ....i missed the target in several trips before hittin it finally.

Just wanted to add this to the report....

With a big turn out at the Hollow - for safety reasons, Gary / Sandman and I decided to get a head count - which I think is a great idea especially when everyone in the group decides to go on his /her own. And it's a great idea to keep tabs on who decides to leave early (Kayakito and Gordo in this case) So, at the end of the day, everyone is accounted for. IMO: As a group, we need to look out for each other BUT we also need to be responsible for our own safety by simply knowing what our limits are.

For those who still don't have radios, it's always good to find someone in the group and relay a message saying "I'm heading in" - or even leave a note on your buddy's car.This way, all bases are covered   and everyone can drive home with peace in mind.

It's also good to radio in (check in) once in a while giving out your location so if something happens, the group will know where your last location was.

I know I sound a little too much of a safety conscious dude....but my intentions are true. "Just a braddah looking out for another"
