Haha. I hear that.

With how (figuratively) salty many of us are this winter, it makes me wonder how the heck those Mid Westerners handle their winters. CBD gummies?  :smt005

I was wondering that too - yikes.  Glad our "winter" is pretty short, and even at that we can still fish year round on liquid water.

If you are Instagram - one of my fave non-fishing follows is @tkca.lifornia - he does a great job of highlighting how much nicer the weather is here than in other states, among other topics.

Ill be surprised if we even get a month of salmon season.  Maybe we will get a couple weeks like that one year, but more than likely, no season at all is my guess and probably the best for the salmon population after the moves being made with their water.

Unfortunately, probably true . So, don't be late to the party or you may lose out. That's if there is a party at all.

Hoping for at least a month or two so I can stock a few in the freezer.

Or I may just end up stocking up on some of those mutant trout. Wont be the same though.

I listened to a few of the comments, and from what I was hearing party boat, and commercial were ok with full closure. Recreational comments were to keep the season open, or reduced limit, or season. I only heard about 20 comments total, and I’m sure there were a lot more. So I don’t know if what I heard was the majority of opinions.

Not looking like there's much room for a season.

Wow. Stats look terrible. I am all for what must be done. I would have been all for opening rockfish early but that front needs some mending as well.

I guess I will be spending some extra quality time trout fishing with my pops this year. :smt001

I listened to the bulk of the comments and it was about 95% to close it when it was coming from commercial, guides or party boats. They also wanted it to get a disaster declaration so they were eligible for assistance similar to farmers from a bad crop. Its been done before for a similar situation I believe.

This happened in 2009-10 too. But back then, the salmon stocking program was not as comprehensive or robust. So I wonder if the projection of 170K adult fall run Sac fish (in the ocean) is accurate. Between 2019 and 2023, we have increased salmon smolt production and found new ways to introduce them to the ocean (net pens in harbors, releasing directly into SF bay, trucking to better release locations, etc). To the tune of 20+ million salmon smolts. Are those fish also included in the ocean abundance projections?

So if salmon is a no go this year?

I second Clayman's suggestion and replace it with crayfish or possibly carp for AOTY?

I would say carp is probably the most elusive fish from a kayak. For reasons I won't get into.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005
