You’re making me more nervous about our neighbor’s oak which I should probably take some time to size up the risk factor

Some serious tonnage up there if it landed on the house

I'm certainly no arborist, but the fungus thing is pretty easy to spot. Generally they are about the size of quarter or a little bigger. Dead branches with moss or lichen is another sign.
Lots of oaks with "the blight" in my area. The tree basically dries from the inside out, but since the trunks of big oaks can hold massive amounts of water, it can take many years for the tree to become unstable.

My area in Bonny Doon was last logged around the early 1900's-1930s.
The removal of those big redwoods allowed some firs and tanoaks to get overgrown with the increased sunlight. In an undisturbed forest the redwood canopy would have limited their overall growth.

What about Sledge? He knows how to take down trees. Even if he just did it for NCKA, he’d have a ton of work right now!

I happened to inspect a tan oak on the edge of the yard the other day and found it is sick with SOD
Here’s what the tell tale fungus looks like

I just got a chainsaw, and I'm determined to remove all the small oaks from my property as well as cut up the ones that blew over the last few months behind my house.  I'm also putting the generator away all the extension cords and the propane heater.  Of course these actions are likely to cause another atmospheric catastrophe to come my way, I'm ready to say winter is over.  :smt004

We'll all know who to blame...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Can you hold off until, say, December on this one?   :smt044
