What a bummer to loose things that you like. Sometimes it’s not just the money, it’s the attachment to a piece of gear that encapsulates good memories. Sorry man

Hey Paul,

It sure is a sinking feeling when that happens :smt013

Sorry about your gear.  No telling how much gear they would find if they ever dig up that beach.

I take my reels off before landing and put them in my hatch. That way if I yard sale the reels don't get sandy and salty. Also your rods have more buoyancy if they do fall in with a pool noodle on. When I bring my Avet, I even bring a screw driver to take it off.

Sorry to hear this Paul. It's never a good feeling. I donated a very expensive spj setup to Humboldt bay a cpl years ago.  My buddy hooked a big halibut right next to me and had no net. In a frenzy I just sat the rod next to me. Bumped it when I went to net his fish. For a very light rod it sure sank fast. Fished that exact spot for 2 hours. Never got the rod but I got 2 - 28 inch halibut from the exact spot

Sorry that you lost your setups sunsaengneem!  I also learned that the small floaties attached to some of my rods do nothing to keep the rods afloat.  Still looking for a better solution because I prefer not to leash too many things either.

This is pretty sound advice for surf launches/landings!  I've also zip-tied my rods to the side of the yak, backwards as to not hopefully not break the tips landing.

Use longer pool noodles. I think those small ones are garbage

Put a decent size pool noodle on rod. Add reel and a six ounce jig and throw in a swimming pool or shallow water. Floats nicely? Good. Sinks? Bigger flotation.

The rod pod was one of the best options on the T 13/15. Its saved me a few times.

If i'm in the tarpon 140, I pull the reels off and bungie the rods to the side of the hull (pointing backwards as Al mentions) using the paddle keeper bungie, with a leash on the rod bundle.

As has been said, we've all lost favorite gear to the sea. Not saying it doesn't sting, but you've got a lot of sympathy on here.

Ouch! Sorry to hear it… if I remember right you had a floater once before… perhaps some will find them… then you can do a good gear take apart. btw… I was the only yak out on Tuesday at RG… felt eiry… one big sea lion started getting aggressive so I left that fishing hole.

Sorry to hear Paul but the video only show you caught limited and landed with your rods.

What a bummer bc I recently had a sea lion ripped my rod off my kayak at OP. It had a noodle on but never saw it re-surfaced.

A friggin sea lion stole your rod??? Now I hate those fuzzy oversized no-rent vermin even more. I’ve been chased, porpoise charged, escorted out of the area, and even boarded by sea lions, mostly first thing in the morning with no company for moral support. I’m the Flyers and they are the Devils, and may the sea lion herpes infect each one of them. We need a cull.
