i actually might go fishing .....

no kidding! i still have a boat, a few rods and reels left and i'm hoping to get out this saturday to run for albacore. pete kolekar is on board, as well as a couple of guys from ncka. if the water is flat, i'd like to drag out a couple of yaks. no one yet has actually hooked and landed an albacore from a kayak.
 
i went through my old box of tuna lures and re-rigged everything !!!!!!!!! 5 boxes full of jigs. everthing from cedar plugs to clones. all of the leaders were 2-3 years old and had to go!
 

 

 

 

 

 
i was working on rodholders for the last year and finally came up with these "smith's."
 

 
all total, it gives me about a 20 foot spread.
 

 

 
the last thing i did was mark off 75 feet of line. i used some old dacron and a 6 turn uni-knot. it's hard to see, but there's a screw driver in the grass, just in front of the plum tree. that's 75 feet.

so everything is ready to go. all we need is some decent weather and some albacore willing to go stupid on us.

Hey you got the boat and the gear why not use it and take the kayak thats why we buy this stuff. I have neglected my boat and feel bad about it so my wife and I are going out Saturday as well. We will be going the the delta. May be I will give the salmon and the strippers a go. Good luck and nail those albacores. Flat seas and a short ride O.K.

remember, this is open water, way offshore at the maximum weight limit for the boat.  our worst case scenario involves myself, a deckhand, four ncka'ers, four kayaks, and a full bait tank, met by 15 knot winds and 5 foot seas after a 2 hour run to the tuna grounds.  fog alone would be a "no go" situation for the kayaks.  if the weather fails to cooperate, it could be very tough going. 

Not to mention the cleanup after the trip!!

According to Franko, efficiency is where it's at. Getting the gear in place ASAP can mean the difference between lots of fish or few fish, so having your line pre-marked makes a difference. But this is purely from the articles I've read on Albacore fishing. No personal experience.

that forecast does not look so hot.   .

But that forecast covers a lot of territory and it is usually worse up north (although not always).

there is wind and swell out there right now, http://www.lajollasurf.org/nocal.html but
the surfline forecast (pay to view) has light winds this weekend along the san mateo coast so far (and by extrapolation, further out to sea). their forcast is very localized and by the 1/4 day, and it often shows the holes in the weather that allow a quick trip.

so probably still a toss-up at this point.

Alan, if the winds suck out there I'll lend you one of my kayaks and we can hit a nice spot,  .

I'll even pick you up at your house and drive.

Have the GWS tried any japanese human sushi yet? see, there's always room for a first,  .
