I'll use different jigs, swimbaits, and stuff I've tied myself while I'm out there, but I've honestly had the most luck using the cheap Pline lingcod white squid rigs. It's a running joke with my buddies that these plastic squid are the only thing I can apparently catch fish with... doesn't make sense to me because I'll use other rigs with fake squid but for some reason, this particular one does the trick.

Do you attach hooks on the top or bottom of your Daiwa Saltiga SK Jig?

Paul

For the saltiga jigs I've used them on the bottom only. I guess it depends on your preference but they've been effective for me with the hooks on the bottom so I stopped caring.
I have a bunch of other jigs that have both top/bottom and top only.

Theoretically a top assist hook is good for speed jigging where the hook is trailing as you are cranking the jig in. A bottom hook is good for rf/lings/halibut which tend to hit on the fall where the top assist hook could be trailing away from the body of the jig and the fish might miss it. I’ve started rigging a top and bottom hook based upon some stuff I read.

Thank you for the great information.  I have been using double hooks at the top without much luck.  I will try top and bottom on my next trip.

single treble on bottom of vert jigs will hook pretty much everything. have snagged rf in literally every part of their body, regularly snag sea cucumbers. I run my assist hooks from the top, snags less often, single hooks, and dont catch smaller fish. dont notice a difference in hook up ratio. use what you are confident in though. putting yourself on fish matters more than what you are using.

I started using the Diawa rock hopper last season. You need to jig it but the action from the swell is often enough. Lings and all sizes of rockfish go after it. I also caught a fatty halibut on its very first drop.

Only been fishing rockfish from the kayak a few months, but what I have most luck with is an 2-4 oz jig head with a 4” keitech 4.3”or super fluke style bait. I sometimes use a small teaser rig above the jig head but generally end up catching smaller rockfish on it.

I know it’s a pretty standard rig for RC and ling. Still need to catch one on a metal jig I hear the bite fun, so thanks for the info.

I love this one, wish they had it in a slightly higher weight.  The orange color does well for me..
