That's pretty amazing Charles. I'd call it a feat for sure. Sadly I don't trust my rigging ability enough to try that. I have a memory foam mattress I can fold in half under the yak and ratchet tie-down through the car windows, if worse comes to worse. I'd really just prefer to borrow someone's Thule fixpoint rack, if possible. Thanks though!

...I would just need to figure out if I can find tie points on my car and make it so the rope doesn't mess up the finish...

Tote posted this a long time ago (couldn't find the thread),  but Eric posted some nice pics of how he did it too.  Works great for the front anchor points:

cheapest u-haul trailer I think is around $15 or $20?

pool noodles and straps through doors also work. obviously if you strap through the windows you can't open the door : P

Exactly, I was expecting to do the pool noodles thing, that seemed easiest and most vehicle-friendly.  However I decided to put off some bills (put off from April to May and now to June) because I was able to drive to Monterey and the South Bay to cobble together a proper Thule rack. Used fit kit, podiums, bars and locks, it's a little rough but it was $185 total so I won't complain too much. Adding the yak makes a total of $615 so that for a yak and a rack, with $110 left for gas money to Mendo and food for the next week.  It works.

Thanks for everyone's great suggestions and offers to help!

Welcome back, Craig!  You paddles out with my my very first time in the ocean at BH the day of Dans excitement, and then the last time I saw you, you were hauling a huge ling up the stairs.

Good to see you around and getting back on the water!

Hey Craig,

Good to hear from you. If you still need a rack I have one that will fit small car like corolla or versa. I also have foam blocks. Let me know.

Thanks Eric and Darius!  I'm good with the rack now, got a beat up one that says Volvo on it for cheap enough.

The yak I am getting has to be completely outfitted as it is pretty much unmodded except for a small hole for a cord that was used for a battery powered motor, and I will plug that hole.  I hope to be out fishing this summer, probably most often Berkeley flats but since I have a rack I can keep, I can go wherever if time allows.

Looking forward to seein y'all again. Appreciate the wb! And yeah that was a fun and interesting day for sure, Eric. Especially for your first day out!
