Upon the good forum recommendations, I bought one of the Elite 5 Ti’s and am pleased with it. Here are the facts:

1) These are the last of the closed out models, and are being replaced by the not-so-good “2” series.

2j Because of “1” above, these are refurb units with the full factory warranty. Mine was in perfect, new condition. I bought an Asurion extended warranty via Amazon for $57

3) Included:  5” unit, appropriate HDI downscan sonar transducer w/ mounting hardware, nearly useless C-Map Insight Pro mapping chip, full 1-year factory warranty, and standard Lowrance mount.
  • My old Navionics + chip won’t work because I unwittingly bought it as a “bundle” which marries it to my now defunct Hook-4, even though I paid $99 for it.
  • These units come with the ridiculous C-Map mapping contour intervals at 6’ up to 18’ depth, and then switch to 30’ intervals, which will only tell me in the broadest of terms that the sea is getting deeper or shallower.  I have since decided to buy the Navionics + N America chip for about $200, unless someone has a backup they want to share. :smt002 So budget yourself extra cash for useful mapping software or be prepared to only get meaningful 2D use from the maps, and then rely on the sonar to provide specific depth data.
  • The display looks much better with the downscan and sonar screens combined into a single unified view.  That means we only need 2 panes, GPS and sonar, to see what the Hook series used 3 screens to show.
  • The larger screen mows through the battery much faster. I can only get about 9 hours use before it dies.
  • My old Hook-4 Scotty RAM ball mount fits
  • The old red power lead fits, but the pinning might work or might be different, so I just used the new lead

Good luck frenchy!
