plan A....was to look for concentrated bait balls and hopefully nail a salmon....found 'em on the North side and the pelicans were dive bombing consistently. Finally marked the bait and started trooching....got a few taps right away and I fed some line out...my rod tip felt some weight and I reel set it.....only to find this gigantus smeltcus  :smt013

...Plan B was to try to catch Halibut or a striper (and hide from the wind) so I paddled South...back to the beach were we usually launch....got out of the wind and started fan casting a swimbait in 10 feet of water... I would touch bottom and hop it all the wat to the yak...over a dozen casts later, there was life at the end of my line  :kick ...turned  out to be a baby butt  :smt011

well, the wind was forecast to be like that, all you had to do was read it...

but great backup plans! I like to see the resourceful Mooch in action!

tell me about those monster smelt, I have had plenty of them, even filleted
one. so strange, white meat on the bottom, red line down the lateral line and
dark with black-flecked meat on top. eeeeeuuuwwwww... I'll have to ask Alien
how they taste,  :smt002.

what did you use as your lure/bait for plan C? looks like a frozen anchovy?

...besides, I saw a fresh striper carcass tossed in the trash can  :smt002

Ya, it was a little intimidating, but I figured this was a good time to challenge the elements with experienced NCKA'ers

on hand and Party Boats in the area ( Not sure the PB's would have helped anyway :smt005 )

It really wasn't that bad,. especially when I started picking up RockFish for the first time...

That Friggen Porpoise sure freaked the hell out of me!!!!  Just saw a Triangle fin come up right in front of my Yak :smt010

Couple Minutes later I heard Mr. Magoo talking about a Porpoise in the area so that helped the pulse rate...

Next time, I would just scale down the amount of gear I have out there so as not deal with so much in the event of capsize and learn more,

And I agree, that stuff is Totally Sleepytime.....Danglin

Great going with the wrench!  ;)
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
