I would get a 12-inch wooden school ruler, and measure each foot individually before I reeled it on.

Bushy

I tried this earlier... took FOREVER!
Not to mention all the tangling as I switch between ruler and reel..
Maybe it's because I used a plastic ruler?

NOW, I want to fish with you!

Might have to bestow a new handle though...

Yes, he passed the "noob" hazing session of this program so... as you would suspect, I like "E" part of his handle.... :smt006

Using a line counter reel won’t be any more accurate than counting cranks. A line counter  reel does not know how full your spool is at any moment - it essentially just counts cranks with gears sized to match the retrieve rate and inches per crank (which I believe is measured with a full spool).

I guess I fall in the category of people who don’t really pay attention to exactly how many yards of line are on my reel. It’s either properly full (based on my eyeball assessment) or it’s not. If it’s not, I’ll re-spool it.

If you want to “top off” your spool without dealing with a knot in the “working” section of your line, you can pull the line on to another reel, add a backing of new line on to the empty spool, tie the old line back on there and reel it up.

Here you go.
It does suck to be too concerned about being detailed. But that’s how I did most of my reels.
