I really want to make it out to some of those events this year. I’m no diver but would love to be a transport and rest area kayak.

I am impressed and a little surprised by how quickly the kelp reestablished itself. Stunning!

My wife works at the MB Aquarium. They say that kelp can grow 2 feet per day. Crazy!

Man, that is so encouraging. Watching Timber Cove North collapse has been really depressing. Thank you!

Very impressive.  I watched a commercial urchin harvester working off Stornetta Public Lands north of Point Arena a year or so ago. They had a guy on a pumped air hose sucking up truck-sized mesh bags full of urchins. The boat was loaded to the gunnels with bags. I wonder what it looks like under there now.

That's actually the reason Josh started doing these events... to raise money for commercial urchin removal teams. Matt Mattison did quite a bit of fund raising and raffle prize obtaining at the first event. I was able to help out with raising all the raffle stuff from Monterey area at the second event and get some fun urchin diving and spearing in too. There have also been a number of grants as well. It's the commercial guys that do the real damage but still on the recreational diving events there are several thousands of pounds of urchin removed which is cool to see! There is even a documentary being made about "the purple nightmare" which started by a guy coming to the second event.

Not sure who organized one up at Albion last year I believe.

This would be great to possibly have one done at shelter cove.

I could possibly be in for using my aluminum boat to run the urchins to shore.
