Lots of talk lately about a pod of Blue Whales in Monterey. I'd like to see 'em… but.. how far out? Just launch at the CG Sta or Monterey wharf and paddle toward HI?  Any advice?

Look for the whale watching boats as you drive down hwy 1 into Monterey. They’ve been off Seaside area lately, maybe 3 miles north of the harbor.

That would be an awesome sight, especially from a kayak...

But here they don’t show any blue whale sightings since the 19th, so probably a longshot...

How far off shore, generally?

I would call the whale watching boats and ask them too. Maybe even pretend like you want to go on the boat and tell them you “get seasick easily and want to know approximately how far offshore the whales were today”... That might be a sneaky way to figure out which direction to paddle. :-)
