Holy shit oh shit oh shit.

I spent a lot of time at that hatchery as a kid, my great uncle was the manager.

Another hatchery out of production is not what the state needs right now.  A couple of the northern hatcheries were offline with whirling disease and lake oroville had it's flood last year.

Moccasin produces a lot of rainbows & browns, but also brookies and cutthroat on smaller scale.

“The hatchery had 1.5 million trout in every stage of development — from eggs to fully grown.”

That’s a lot of fish dang

So, I’m now planning a family camping trip to DP in July. Which campground would you recommend between Fleming Meadows or Mocassin Ck? Fleming Meadows is bigger and has all the amenities (snack bar, swimming lagoon, etc) but the traffic near the dam m/b rough in July with all the skiers. Seems like maybe Mocassin would be better for kayaking? Thanks!

I haven't been to moccasin in years but we used to go there over the other side since it was way less crowded. The whole cove the launch and campground is in is all a no wake zone and pretty large area.

The dam operators are releasing huge amounts of water. As of 18 hours ago, they downgraded the danger of failure from imminent to potential. Still, not a great day to wet-wade the creek...
