Don't tell anyone, but the halibut are starting to show in Santa Cruz.  From the Mile buoy to the yellow can in Capitola.  some guy got limits of  fish (5 for two guys) yesterday to 20 pounds.

I probably will give a try on thursday right out front of the harbor.

Schweeet!  Anyone going out on Saturday?  If so, I'd be interested in joining up.

Allen, I'm going to throw my stuff together and get out in front of the SC harbor thursday. You convinced me with your advance Sentinel report on that other site!  I'm going to do my best to get out near dawn, but that's darn early this time of year.  Wind looks like it will be a touch more tomorrow, but it looked rideable this morning from PlPt, no surf to speak of.

If the wind stays down, I'm going to try on Friday afternoon.  Hopefully on the water by 2PM.  I'll launch from the harbor.

Tom- keep it on 69 o I can talk to you.  wish I could get out early, but kids have to get to school.... so I'll launch around 8:30.

fish this week were caught troling squid, so that's what I plan to use, though if Bocci Boy has live bait, I just might have to go for some and change up.

Remember we can fish with two rods for halibut as long as there are no rockfish aboard.

Thanks for the reminder.  It can get boring with just one rig especially when the bite is slow.

When you say "troll squid" do you mean plastic ones behind a flasher, swivel, egg sinker?
Or do you mean frozen squid behind the same kind of rig?
It looks like lo tide in the early morning, so you probably won't be missing much going later.

Darn it!!! Why must the butts bite when I'm 100 miles away from the ocean??? Hopefully, I'll be able to get out this weekend... with my luck, they'll all be gone.

Go get'm while the gettin' is good boys...

Tight lines,

Freddie

Bocci boy is a boat that sells live bait, at the end of S dock in the SC harbor.  The skippers name is Carl.

the old shamrock bait receivers are still there but the store is not Shamrock anymore, and neither I nor anyone I know will support that store by the fuel dock, some rather nasty history there.

the guys who caught the other day were trolling the bounce ball method with a 3-way swivel.  I'm probablby just going to drift fish or do a power drift with a bit more weight on my sliding sinker.
