Cambria Wed a.m., 25 yard visibility, surf close to flat.  Some windswell but nothing like it's been.

Launched out of Harvey, could hear the surf, had a compass & the windswell was rolling toward shore so i felt pretty comfortable going offshore.  Once you got 100 yards out you couldn't see a thing, disorienting & kind of creepy.  Heard a couple boats one with a big foghorn but i knew they were outside the kelp.

Fished in the kelp & scored 4 Lings 24-26", 1 Verm 18" & 1 16" Olive.  Kept 2 Lings & the other 2.  Caught a load of various other rockfish.  I was in pretty shallow water, around 30-50' of water.

Couple times when i was unhooking fish got spun around a few times & my sense of direction got thrown off, if there was no windswell it would have been scary without GPS.

Around 10:30 fishing picked up & started to get a fish every drop.

A good day @ the soon to be shut down Cambria MPA.

Yep, that place is spooky as hell when that fog rushes in.

It seems like that area is packed with 18-26 inch lings right now... Bigger ones must be further out.

Hope we can hookup when I get back in town.

First time I ever dove in Cambria, it was nice overcast conditions.  We were diving at the kelp beds far out and in less than a 5 minute period, the fog rolled in and whited everything out.  I could barely see more than 20ft.

Very fortunately, we had run into one of our friends out there that had marked the launch site on his GPS - a practice that I try to follow in areas known for fog.   :smt002

yeh, we've all got to hookup, maybe go for a long paddle to the south or something.

didn't know i'd be able to go out today until late last night.

i'm gone for the next week and a half but after that i'm back.

used a blue & white fishtrap w/ a white tail & orange belly, seemed to work really well w/ the lings.
