As for the light recall  I did get a new light kit ,
LED style , much brighter, I guess .
Haven't gotten around  to switching it over yet,  that project seems to be on the back burner...

Is that for a Trailex? The trailer is excellent, but the lights seem like junk---I'm sure I'll soon replace them with LEDs. In any case, what brand of LEDs do you suggest?

And one more thing... Will they try to make me pay sales tax on this when I register it? If so, is there any way out of that? I bought it online, with no sales tax charged.

I got the Harbor Freight led lights (for my HF trailer).  Much nicer than the ones that came with the trailer.

That's a great price. Thanks for the info.

My experience with the harbor freight trailer getting it registered was much the same as Scotty's.

I built it, took the paperwork with me, got it inspected and signed off in about 20 minutes. The tax was about $20 with lifetime registration.

I have not had any issues wit the lights since I ran a ground to each light as a precaution.

I had the same experience with my harbor freight trailer as scotty, maybe 20 min tops. Guy just walked around it, looked at VIN and I was done.

I believe a trailer built for human occupation has different rules than a cargo trailer.

It does, but it seems having a toilet/blackwater system is the dividing line. On the Shasta I just junked, there was no toilet at all, no wastewater system of any kind, and it was registered PTI.

Did you need an appointment for that, or is walk-in OK? I've got an appointment for Thursday, but would like to go tomorrow...

Got my HF trailer registered today via an appointment.  As others mentioned above, it took about 20 minutes or so.  They did a brief visual inspection but never did check if the lights were working or not.  $40 and plates in hand.

Now to start the oh so slow process of building a teardrop with a kayak rack.

Finally got my kayak trailer registered today... Just pulled the trailer into the lineup at the DMV (no appointment necessary) and it took about 30 minutes total. The guy who inspected it barely looked at  it, and didn't check anything. Unfortunately, I had to pay sales tax, but still glad to have it done.
