My previous garage was bigger and there was enough room for 2 cars, yak on wall. It was also deep enough for supplies in front of my car. I a smaller garage now and have the portabote/yak/freezer on my side of the garage and park my beater outside. It wasn't worth trying to cram everything inside and I have extra room for projects or to prep/dry things between trips.

If it's a new car, it might be worth looking into ceiling hoists, etc?

Garages are the best place for cars. What you need is a shop.

I guess I'm very fortunate to have a three car garage.  My wife's  car gets one door, my Subaru gets a door, and the third door is the kayak trailer and yak gear.  The Man Van is on the driveway.  It's too tall to fit in the garage.  I tend to keep my cars a long time and garage storage makes a big difference in the condition of the exterior.  My wifes' 03 Landcruiser has 125,000 miles and still looks very good.

living in Fresno with temp in the 115+ in the summer...car definitely in the garage. I'm fortunately lucky to have a 3 car garage with a pass through on the 3rd car so I can drive into the backyard (whenever I get a boat). 3 car plus motorcycle and kayak live comfortably in there. I did install a kayak hoist but since I use the kayak more and more, I just put it on a kayak stand in front of the cars so I don't have to raise and lower it each time. Its there so when I get another kayak I can store it on there perhaps.

Kayak hoist? Those exist? I always thought they were home-made. I don't have the engineering or creative skills to come up with some custom one, but I have a drill and ladder and can read instructions on a commercially made one. This is the answer to my 1 car garage problem.

Crazyfisher - that's a dream garage and one of the most ingenious garage setup I've seen. You would usually have to be a corner lot to be able to park anything in the backyard. Envious because you would be able to back a boat into the backyard easily.

I do have a corner lot but the pass through is an option when I built the house. Only a few model have this option but its a great feature to have when I do get a boat or need additional parking (building a car port in the back to house a boat or car)
