My partner and I recently took off for 10 days to go to a festival in Santa Barbara. Driving down the 101 along california more southern coast got me thinking. It would be awesome to organize a Ling Cod Openers sweep! The seasons open 2 weeks apart from each other starting in SoCal first. I think that makes 4 or maybe as any as 6(?) opening days.

Would anyone be interested in helping me plan out an attack plan for hitting all the opening days next year? Weekend trips, different marine management area every weekend until we hit Crescent City? If you are and you will be serious about it, track me down on FB @ John L Morgan or IG @herbal_madness.

Can I just reply here?
I think that's a cool idea = the rockfish lingcod opener circuit! The opening dates for 2018 are already posted on dfw site, so you could theorhetically begin planning now.
There are 5 management regions in CA: southern, central, sf, mendo, northern.
Southern: march 1
Central: april 1
SF: april 15
Mendo: may 1
Northern: may 1

Luckily the Mendo coast (my jigging grounds) and the Humboldt coast are close enough that theoretically we could hit Noyo one day and Arcata area the next. I'm afraid I don't know enough about my neighboring waters though.

Good luck with weather conditions cooperating. Sounds like a cool idea though.
