The only way to avoid a set, is total support like on a shelf. Any over hang (Bend in rod) is susceptible to a set.

Hmm, it seems like I really don't have near enough fishing rods yet, I need to work on that!

I kept some tension on the line with my lightweight trout Rod and it now has a permanent bend in it. Luckily it's not a problem when trolling.

after reading this thread, i went out and checked on a rod i never use that sits in the corner against the wall.  sure enough, the rod now has a permanent bend.  its small and wont effect its performance salmon fishing but this inspired me to get all my rods into some sort of wall rack.  thanks for the inspiration!! :smt006

30 years in the tackle buisness and a life long angler, I learned the hard way. When fishing rods are left for a long time in a horizontal position, they will acquire a "SET" (bend in the rod).
Depending on the temp and time left in this position, the set could be severe and permanent.

Could that have been caused by the intense valley heat?   hanging in a garage at 110 degrees  ?
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.

Anything is possible, if in doubt, hang your rods for a season or two (It is best to use quality products to get the best results). And please add pictures for our viewing pleasure

I have one of those cart ones that Tom gave me.... Holds plano boxes and poles... I ought to set it up one of these days :smt005 Rack um, stack um... Don't worry to much about "set" ect... Unless you're headed on the bass fishing pro life style. Many options out there. Google it :smt006
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!
