We did M80s in the old glass 5 gallon water bottles in the middle of the intersection of our street, light it and run like hell...

We did that too and fortunately nobody was hit by the shrapnel. We'd also sink then to the bottom of our farm pond (about 1 acre, 15' max depth) and watch the fish float to the surface---not dangerous but fun.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Once made a homemade crossbow using a piece of fiberglass and a simple lever trigger. I had learned to operate a jigsaw, so made a cool rifle stock (like the Barnett in the intro to For Your Eyes Only). I made little wooden bolts for it and shot them at paper targets. No biggie, kind of a neat toy.
Then 9 yr old me found some metal shears and got the idea to make triangle arrowheads from scrap copper.

the first one stuck deep into a fence post and suddenly (h*ly sh*t) I was holding a real weapon. Funny how you can remember that exact split second of realization. Almost 40 years later I think about that if I am target shooting or whatever.

Anyone remember the homemade shoelace end blow darts?  :smt003

For those that don't recall or ever did..... you cut off the ends to your shoelaces leaving about a half inch of lace, cut off about half of hard plastic coating and fluff the uncovered part, take one of ma's stick pins ( the ones with the little ball on the end), ran that in from the fluffy end (pliers and the dresser work best), now the hardest part.. finding a straw that is just the right internal diameter for a snug fit  :smt044 after some practice you can get them to stick into sheet rock from across the room and your brothers arm even better :smt005 although once mom found out why all our shoelaces were endless we got an a$$ whooping you know the kind that used to be ok and kept you from sitting in s clock tower with an ak47 or sitting in prison for lack of any kind of punishment as a kid. We did stupid shit as kids but never enough to get arrested or worse.

That hard plastic end is called an aglet. I learned that watching a cartoon with my kids.

I blew some stuff up as a kid. Still do, some of you have seen some of the stuff I make with just stuff laying around the house.
My best, was a 5 gal propane tank with a road flare behind it. We had been drinking, I shot it with my 7 mm from about 300 yards. INSTANT SOBRIETY! I was certain I was going to jail over that boom within city limits. Oh, I forgot to mention that, it was on the 50 yard line of the school's football field lol.
Gun cotton....I have turned so many Levi's into gun cotton. Serious boom with a pair of levis crammed into a gallon mayo jar and shoot it.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

We did something like that;
We would wrap dampened paper around a stick pin then shoot at the ceiling at school and stick them in the ceiling tiles.  Think spitwad shooter with a needle sticking out of the front.  But we never shot at anyone, just the class room ceiling.

We used also flick sharpened pencils and stick those in the ceiling tiles too.

Dang, comparatively I had a peaceful childhood.  Dirt cloud fights for sure and the.occasional homemade blow dart. But fear of the belt and fear if the nuns kept my brothers and me somewhat contained.  There was the homemade skate boards made from a roller skate and 2x4s and homemade carts that we took down steep city streets through busy intersections.. Lots of screeching brakes and yelling from the drivers but we never got caught.
A friend made a flare after hours in high school chem class.  Turned out he used white phosphorous instead of red and it blew up in my hands.  That did result in a trip to thr ER, some stitches and burns and a few hours of blindness  :smt044
Later there were the hot rods and drag racing etc. But many have those stories

Every 5 years I get a new one, free. If I chip one or lose it, they are about $300 each. I wanted to get an eye for each holiday, with a birthday cake for bdays, heart for VDay, tree for Christmas, shamrock for St. Patties, you get the idea...I even went as far as getting a quote for an NCKA logo glass eye! $400!
Man if I lived down there I would have to start a collection for the NCKA glass eye with the requirement that you wear it at all the events and do some fish photo poses with it in, my left eye is nothing but a blur for vision from an accident I wouldn't wish that on my enemy. But being able to change if out would be cool I'd probably spend almost as much On eyes as I do on kayaks lol.
