Gaff (EK custom) and drift sock for sure.I sometimes carry a net also, but if you fish for halibut long enough you WILL hook one that is too big to net successfully.

 Hi Yaker:

A Gaff is the way to go.  I used a Gaff for my first Butt and, a nylon  bag  of sinkers as a persuader!

I think 2 ft is plenty long. Maybe too long for a kayak. I have an old gaff thats about 30 inches that I used to bring with me rockfishing...but eventually stopped using it because it was just too dang long (of course, you can always just choke up on the shaft [THATS WHAT SHE SAID!] but it still got in the way).

I am really looking forward to using the new custom gaff EK made for me. Seems to be perfect length, weight, diameter, and it floats! And it has my name on it. There's something about it too; it just has that great "stabability" factor LOL. Check Classifieds for info about his gaffs.
