I had work in Garberville at midday today and yesterday was like the best of Summer, so I loaded up the yak and gear and ran over to the Cove a bit after 2PM when I was done with work.  Got there and out on the water by 3 and trolled out by the bell for 30 minutes or so.  Landed a nice blue and a fatty trout at 18-24 pulls, but the word on the salmon bite is that it has gone cold.  The forecast was northwest wind picking up to 10-20 and it began to show that as I was out there.  Random riffler whitecaps that break in your lap are uncomfortable...   :smt009  It was unorganized and windier the farther west you went.  Out of the few powerboats that were still out later in the day there was NO talk on the radio, even when I asked about when the bite had gone cold after last week's hot bite.  I did not hear of ANY salmon caught today at the Cove.

...I did see another kayaker though!  A guy in an orange Drifter out at the bell - he had just dropped a crab pot south of there and was out solo.  It was cool to see another kayaker out there.   :smt001

Ah yes, PK, the "Sea Trout" - I do like calling it by its proper name, greenling, but so many people think that's a green lingcod that I just prefer "sea trout!"

I've heard several people over the years say they don't care for greenling/sea trout filets, but I think that's because they're so fine-flaked and delicate.  They're probably among the best if you can keep them in good shape.  It also helps to get a big one so it's not just a mini filet.  Deep fried in some Panko, "sea trout" is a deadly melt-in-your-mouth delight.   :smt001
