He made it in, stayed out for quite a while, and looked very competent. I don't want to bash on the guy, just concerned for his safety .... lost too many brothers from similar situations going south quickly.

Remember the days when no one knew what a bike helmet was? These days if you dont have every safety gadget imaginable your considered a fool. Worst case he would have had a long cold swim back. Could have died? Maybe.,but could just as easily slip in the bath tub.

Fuck my ass and call me Sally, I'm still wearing a pfd. I hope we can move past the machismo bullshit but until we do its our job to call out this kind of bullshit.

All I'm saying is the guy is an adult and what he chooses to do is his own business. What one person is comfortable doing will freak out others and they will call it unsafe.

It is ultimately our own decision how we proceed, but the results of our decision could impact many. The loss of friends and loved ones, the emergency crews efforts in a remote area, even the bad press on a sport, this will ripple way beyond our personal decisions.
Common sense should be included.

Agreed!

I'm sure I'd be the big a-hole everybody points their finger at if they seen me when I first started fishing from a kayak.  I almost scared to admit that I still don't wear a pfd in the bath tub.....don't hate me bros :)

Maybe he was in a full wetsuit (good luck sinking in one) and got too hot so he took the top down?

Too each his own,
Josh

P.S.  I always wear my PFD so I don't get shit from you guys :smt006

Iv swam the ocean a few times usually 1-2 miles in the bay around Alcatraz or angel and that shits cold. Did it in my bare speedo a few times and I come out all pink.  It sucks yes but it's tolerable. Now his swim skills? Well idk that's on him.
