Hey there!  I'm from San Diego originally(now living out by Palm Springs).  I usually kayak fish in the summer only, and mostly when down in Baja on surf trips with my wife and kids.  This August, we have booked campsites at: Limekiln in Big Sur, Van Damme S.P. up by Ft. Bragg, and Kamp Klamath, way up at the mouth of the Klamath River.
I would greatly appreciate any advise on what to expect at any of these places in regards to fishing conditions, what to bring, etc.  I assume I will be mostly fishing for rockfish like lings, reds, etc.. Also, if you  can give any surfing info, that would help too, I'm not really getting my hopes up for surfing, but always go prepared!
Thanks ahead of time!
Steve

Not sure if this would help, but if you do a "search" on Limekiln or any of the other locations (on the top right side) you'll be able to go through some of our past fishing reports and maybe learn a few things form our experiences.

I fish and dive from the Van Damme State Park many times.  There's a beach with easy access to the water right across from this park and it's a well protected cove.  To the left of this cove are some good areas for rock fishing.

Van Damme is a good easy spot to launch. If you hang to the right, there are some good spots to get abs.

Enjoy to site and welcome!

If you have time and the weather is good, Caspar is a nice cove north of Van Damme.

RE:  Limekiln, there are a few launchable spots but I wouldn't go alone if you don't know the area.  The fish tend to be a decent paddle from the launch and the wind comes up quickly.  The launch and landing can be tough; shorebreak.

Depending on the swell size and direction, you can launch right from Limekiln very easily.

best fishing, I think, is off to the North by the big Point there, tho the whole area is fishy.

When you get into Humboldt, stop and see us at Humboats Kayak Adventures on Woodley Island, Eureka. We have local maps and launch intel on the whole coast as well as info on where to camp or stay. Mouth of the Klamath is very Sharky but oustanding fishing

You staying at Kamp Klamath in the Fall? I go there every september and troll spinners in the estuary for salmon. There's also an outfit that will tow your 'yak upstream and you then float down yourself. Fishing there is a neat vibe!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

In my experience, the weathers still pretty dicey in the beginning of May... Its kind of hit or miss.. I've seen it flat calm one week followed by 12 ft NW the next. For this reason I usually don't prebook trips before mid-June.
Mill Creek is a good alternative if the shore breaks pounding at Limekiln.
Good luck and post a report after your trip!
Livin tha pirates life full time! Catchin big cbass in tha kelp all summer long Have fun, live well, conserve the resource, and ask me about my secret fishing spots. but I probably won't tell you, cuz their secret!
