Good evening Nor Cal Yakers! If you read our last fishing report then you will know that we are way overdue for another excursion. Tomorrow the weather looks perfect and the Big_Tuna boys will be out on the water. We will be launching near our home in Pacific Grove. The bait is thawing on the counter drawing disgusting looks from my wife... We will post tomorrow with a new adventure story!

Big_Tuna, OUT!

I'm 99% sure they are fishing for rockfish & lingcod.

But perhaps salmon bite is heating up locally...http://www.ksbw.com/news/Commercial-salmon-season-is-off-to-a-good-start/39345968
Sorry for the threadjack Big Tuna! Hope you & your son caught tons of fish.

So here is the report! We left everything in the ocean, but had an amazing time and met some great people today. We learn so much everytime we go out. Yes, we were fishing for rockfish and lingcod and got some fantastic pointers from some new friends. We did not last long on the water today. The wind came up about 1100 and we headed for the shore. There is something about riding up and over large swells that makes me nervous, but drifting quickly out to sea with a stiff wind makes me even more cautious. The highlight today was seeing my son's face light up and stutter... "there is a...a...a... wha...wha...whale!" A giant whale and her baby came very close to the Big_Tuna. It is like seeing something from another planet. Kayak fishing on the Pacific Ocean and in Monterey Bay makes one feel extremely small and vulnerable. You suddenly realize... maybe we humans are not so great after all... there are so many amazing things in this world! Taking the time to ponder about our insignificance and floating on the ocean on a piece of plastic brings humility to your soul.

Looking forward to another adventure soon!

Anytime OTW with your son is a great time.

How is he on self rescue in the ocean?
