Really, though... The other guys nailed it. Tough to catch in that situation.

You might also try something really small and "easy", like a little roboworm on a darter head or drop shot.

A huddleston looks nothing like a mt lassen trout  :smt003

you need a hudd-type lure that has a beat up tail, a bevel cut top tail, tiny mutated pectoral fins, about 2x the girth of a normal shaped trout, and a few cigarette butts and rocks occasionally spewing from the mouth, gill rakers or vent.  also, it has to swim in a lazy zigzag pattern with no apparent idea where its going.

Extra points if the peduncle is crooked or misshapen in some fashion.

That may be the single funniest thing I've read all year!

Viva la urban truck trout :)

Honestly, I'd say try 1 or 2 slow, finesse presentations (4" wacky senko, 3" hula grub, etc)...then move along. Because it's not cool to molest unwilling bed fish. It just stresses them out even more or decreases the survival rate of their offspring. And nobody wants that. We want them bigguns to continue spawning and passing on their genes.

Lots of good advise here. The thing to remember is, they got that big by being smart.

I had fished with this guy several times at SC:

I believe it was trowing one of those trout imitation lures... like BMB was saying  :smt044

Thanks for all the advice and info!  I kinda figured they wouldn't go for any of the standard stuff, especially with the amount of pressure they see in that lake.

I said the same thing to my Wife, "They didn't get that big by being stupid."

No worries though, we're strictly catch and release when it comes to bass.

A small blue gill would have worked if it was hungry or a night crawler.

When spot fishing large mouths, I've caught 5+ Lb fish simply using a size 4 hook and large live nightcrawler, no weight just the weight of the worm and presenting it right infront of the fish.
