Jim, I grew up ice fishing in NH. My uncle would setup a season long bob house with wood stove/ generator/ fryer. We would auger out a fishtank in the ice and fill it up fish as we caught them: Trout, white perch, crappie, pout and cusk. He would pull out the fish, fillet and fry with fresh potatoes right there. Add some snow mobile tubing into the mix, It was so much fun.

thanks for sharing! I grew up in Michigan and did a lot of ice fishing and even our family made ice fishing lures for sale back then ( Big Beaver Lures) but that was a loooong time ago and now the boys want to give a try. I'm sure we will most likely spend hours getting setup only to start fishing when they start saying " Dad, It's too cold out here!"  :smt005

Silver is good, access is an issue with little ones. I always took the kids to Caples near the dam, not the spillway. I have a pal that works at the Caltrans maintenance yard there, and I borrow his auger lol. I love icefishing.

Love me some ice fishing by the dam at Caples is closest Rainbows and occasional Lake Trout,  anywhere on Prosser mostly rainbows and a few browns or Stampede if you can access Rainbows Browns and Lake trout. With a lot of snow you will need to have an extension on your  auger to get to the water.

I have never fished it, always wanted to, but Boca puts out some TOAD browns every year through the ice. I might have to take a trip there this year!

The Gardnerville Newspaper often has fishing reports for ice fishing on Caples and Silver Lake
