I've never launched there but it looks like a promising spot. Maybe .2 miles to the water and the path looks pretty gradual after the initial jaunt out of the old parking lot. Definitely doable with a cart. Nice, free acess to good fishing areas, too. Might have to give it a try.

With a friend, I have carried a 12' aluminum boat down there.  Just a quick note about that spot.  The "road" down has quite a bit of poison oak along the sides.  I've never seen any up towards the top, it usually starts just as the road makes the right hand turn.  This time of the year there are no leaves on the stuff, it's basically just a stick/twig but will get you just the same.  I am extremely allergic to poison oak and have been down there since the early 80's, caught the po only once.

Great info Lightfoot and Chattich.

Wednesday looks like a good day to fish.  Anybody else available?

I may be able to get out Wednesday morning, I work at 3 pm. I'll keep an eye on the thread and see what your plan is. Didn't get my first trout today during the hurricane at Rancho Seco, so I still have the itch!

I may be going out.  Off the kayak launch on hwy 37 just west of Mare Island.  Fly fishing for stripers.

Where is the launch on Hwy 37?  I made good progress today and should be able to get free for Wednesday and Striper are my desired target fish.

Just a quick suggestion about Berryessa . . . try launching out of Oak Shores. It's free. It's a much easier launch than the Markley Cove launch mentioned - there's even a newer concrete path from the parking lot to several launch-able coves with gravel shores (See Here:https://goo.gl/maps/fexoyQ5aJ8N2) . There are a ton of submerged islands and all kinds of structure in and around Goat Island & the Big Island that hold bass, not to mention the many smaller coves in the immediate area.
If you're into trolling for trout, the area between Goat Island and the Big Island I've always had decent luck with - everything from 10" DFG planters to some larger 15- & 16-inch Rainbows.

I've thought about trying to launch @ the Markley Cove turn-out spot several times and I always get back into my vehicle and truck it down to Markley Cove Marina . . . I'm not afraid of getting the kayak down to launch - I'm worried by the amount of broken glass from vehicles that have been broken into in that spot in the parking area. I justify the launch fee @ Markley as being nothing more than the security of my vehicle & possessions.

Going west it's about 1 1/2 miles past the Mare Island exit.  Went out yesterday at low tide and got two nice fish on clousers.  It was raining pretty hard, but the wind wasn't bad.  Good luck

Ok.  Wednesday and Thursday both look like workable fishing days without rain.  I'm game for either Berryessa, the Napa River, Petaluma River, Sonoma Creek or SPB.   I'm just looking for company.  If no one is free I'll probably go up to Lake Sonoma since I know the area better, or the Petaluma River.

I like the Suggestion from MgoMini about fishing around Big Island, However, that is further from Alpinex.

So, if someone wants to fish Chime in and let me know where.

Napa River is high, fast, and like liquid mud right now so the only game in town would likely be sturgeon for a while. I saw two full sized trees (roots to tree top) floating down yesterday afternoon. Be safe out there if you go.

Fishing the deeper rocky points on the east side of the Big Island at Berryessa wouldn't be a bad bet.

Thanks for the Intel Chattich.  Sounds like a good idea to avoid the rivers for now.

How is berryessa likely to fish after this rain?  Will it be really stained?  Will the fish be riding it out until the water clears, particularly trout?
