Forgive my ignorance, but can someone give me the rationale why the test of the braid used in these stingers has to be so great, especially as its doubled up?

Becuase 500 lb spectra looks cooler on stinger hooks than 40 lb spectra.

Honestly, I think it just needs to be braided and relatively thick and stiff.  Dacron should work just as well even though it's a lower test line.
