I don't know how far up the San Joaquin it was, but I have seen seals in Discovery Bay and in Stockton also jellyfish in Rio Vista. Why not a sea turtle looks real enough to me.

I don't believe it.....your average delta bank angler wouldn't have been able to witness something as cool as that without chucking a large rock at it or trying to snag it with a treble and their 12' surf rod.  :)

Your preferred method of take would be free gaffing  :smt044 :smt044

Gill nets for sea turtles.......more effective.

Jellyfish and sealions are native species in local waters ....no biggie.

Sea Lions  I have seen  as far as mouth of the American. Nothing gets your blood pumping like being anchored in a small aluminum boat bait fishing for Stripers in the fog and seeing a couple hundred pound Sea Lion raise up out of the water a few feet from you very silently.

I have also seen  shad fisherman by Freeport in a small dingy?(1/2 a canoe) with a large stringer of shad hanging from their 1/2canoe be pulled like a cork in the water from a very large Sea Lion stealing dinner.

I am just saying over the 46 years I have been fishing and playing around the Delta I haven't seen so much activity from our saltwater friends.
Yes, sealions are native species the jellyfish that I have seen in the Delta are invasive species. The biggie is to much saltwater is moving up the Delta so why not saltwater turtles.

The sealions have been all the way up to the Nimbus fish hatchery last couple years eating Salmon in the ladder.
