A few years ago, I posted a hookup and took a bunch of you out gold panning. Guitarzan took a bunch of pictures of my gold dust refining process, and I finally compiled it all into a short how-to article. Pretty simple, and you probably have everything you need already at your house!
Every fall, I love to go hunt, but hunting dies off around lunch time. So I like to go and do some prospecting, and just save the gold that I get. Once I have enough, and it only takes a few trips to gather enough, I do this with the fine gold so that it is easier to handle and sell/use.

Maya and I had so much fun that day.  We missed this part of the trip because she didn't want to leave the creek and the panning.

Thanks for the write up.  I'm going to show it to her.

Let's do it again soon.

Nate

Interesting procedure. I have a vial with some dust and will have to try that. What's the best source for Mapp gas and torch?

If I get enough BB's I could load a shotgun shell. 1 1/2 oz. gold would work better than lead, and non-toxic. :smt001

No, just sluicing and panning. Where we went, no mechanised equipment is allowed.

Absolutely! I am actually taking my GF to give her some tactical weapons training this Sunday, then we are going to do some prospecting in an area I always wanted to. Looks real promising. AND, not too far upstream a friend of mine and I found these on our gold claim metal detecting back in '08!

This has always interested me. And your posts inspired me to learn more about it a few years ago. But I just found out my uncle is way into it and has a claim on the Consumnes above 49 somewhere...gonna go with him this Nov/Dec.

I was just up that way Sunday with Kasie. We found some, not much. But, we were in a high use area where lots of people have been going for years. No flooding because of the dam, no gold replenishment. I like my other spots. Beautiful up there, and I am sure his claim is more productive. Let me know if you need to borrow equipment, I have everything.

  Loves me some gold!
I posted earlier what I was able to pan out of some dirt brought home from my friends place.  I filled a blue Rubbermaid tub with dirt from a dry creek bed in his area.  Over the course of many weeks I eventually panned through the tub.  Now that my roof project it 99.99% done I might have time to back up for another visit and more pay!

If this years El Nino prediction comes true it could open up a whole new world by next summer. Let's hope so.

Went poking around the yuba today after some shotgunning practice and AR brass rippin. Panned out probably fifteen pans of muck, not bad color! Nothin big, but 20-40 specs/pan. Will be hittibg this spot later with a sluice n run a bunch of buckets thru. Got enough to make another BB! Keep those specs, they add up!
