The water level has been hovering around 5% since October 2013.
But they finally decided to shut er down due to the drought. By "they" I mean the MoCo Board of Supps and the Parks & Rec dept (bastards).

The lake was drained much faster and far lower than normal, back in summer/fall of 2013 because they need to maintain adequate flows into the Salinas River (for farmers and federally-listed steelhead). Normally, that water is taken from lake Nacimiento because they both flow into the Salinas and Naci recharges faster & has a more efficient route to the Salinas...compared to San Antonio which has recharges slowly due to weak inflow and a longer/less efficient course from the dam to the Salinas [google underground river]. BUT they were doing construction on the Naci dam which required them to take water from San Antonio instead. Looking back now, it was extremely short-sighted to release 300-500cfs of water per day...with no plan to refill it (other than crossing their fingers it would rain more than average).

Here's the data: http://www.mcwra.co.monterey.ca.us/reservoirs-dams/reservoirs-dams_overview.php
Want some perspective on how fast the lake level went down? Because it was at 728ft in June 2013, then plummeted to the all-time low of 657ft by the end of November! So the lake went down 71ft in 6 months?!
I reviewed the historical stats, and the last time it was below 7%, it took 10+ years to get back to 80% capacity. So, at this rate, it will be full again in 2026. But will there be any fish left?

OK rant over.

You're fortunate to have been able to fish the lake one more time before the closure.

Closed to everybody for everything...can't even park outside the gate and walk in (which would be like 4 mile walk anyways).
