I'm trying to figure out how to best setup the live well that's built in the yak...

1) what is the best setup; manual/electric?
2) or is there a better setup?

Thanks guys.....

EDIT: what the hell is going on with my posts?!! Some kind of glitch.

Here's what I did. It's pretty sweet. I can build another one for about $100 if interested.

I don't have one, but based upon pics I'd plumb it with a timer.  What are you planning to use it for?

Why do you have 2 switches for your live well? 1 under your rod pod, the other by your rod holder?

Not sure why my post above looks all funky but it is connected to the photobucket hyperlinks.
Anyways, I figured out that the Shoreline brand inline livewell pump fits inside the tankwell perfectly. So I rigged it to fit and installed a switch & timer. I can use it to recirculate water that's already in the tankwell or to pump new/fresh water through the scupper hole (depending on which type of live bait I have).

Only one switch under the rodpod. The other thing in back by the rod holder is an electrical connector (it's actually a trolling motor plug receptacle). Like this one: http://www.cabelas.com/product/MAR-LAN-TROLL-PLUG-RECEPTACLE-WIRE-SET/1806481.uts
It allows me to cover the plug/terminals when I'm not using the livewell---and it allows me to plug in navigational lights like this one: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Attwood-Bi-Color-Stowaway-with-Task-Light/1316564.uts

It takes about 1 minute to attach or remove the livewell setup.

Thank you fellas; Cen coast; nice setup, any cons in your setup thus far?

BmB 2.0: not sure....want a setup that's applicable to most livebait

what type of livebait?  Freshwater? Salt?

In freshwater with minnows, livewells really aren't necessary.  a trolling style bucket will do just fine.

In the salt, with fragile creatures like anchovies or dines, do like Cen coast does - plumbed bilge pump.  I still wouldn't overload the well though, square corners and tight spaces beat the fish up pretty bad.  I'd look to put some sort of cover on it to calm them down.  We don't fish a whole lot of live bait up here on the kayaks though.

Live bait isn't necessary to fish for RF/Lings/Salmon.  You can use it but it takes valuable fishing time away trying to make it.

Halibut - Live bait can help, but you need to catch or buy live bait somewhere first.  A lot of people use shiners which work fine in a bucket.  Smelt/Anchovies/Mackerel/Sardines would be good for a livewell.
Seabass - Live squid can help, but those also survive in a bait bucket.  most guys who've caught WSB just catch them on dead squid.

So the only fish species that a livewell would help a lot would be halibut.  But a lot of folks just target halibut with gear or dead bait, or bait that survives in a bucket well.

Down in SoCal, live bait is king - being able to make live bait can be the difference between catching a yellowtail/tuna (recently) and not.  Most guys down there recommend making 12-20 baits for a day trip if you can.
