From the DFG web site on 12/13/06:

With special funding from the Sportfish Restoration Fund, DFG will plant an additional 11,500 pounds of rainbow trout in select Bay Area lakes, ranging from 1- to 3-pounds each. The lake stocking, which DFG synchronizes with holiday family-oriented events, is in addition to regular stocking from the Department or the local park agencies.

Here's the rest of the story:

Sweet!

I wonder what it would take to get DFG to turn one of the bay area lakes into a striper lake?

• In the East Bay, DFG will plant 1-pound trout in Hidden Valley Lakes in Martinez, Lake Refugio in Hercules, Shadow Cliffs Reservoir in Livermore, Lakeshore Park in Newark, Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, and Quarry Lakes in Newark.
• In the South Bay, DFG will plant 1- to 3-pound trout in Cottonwood Lake in San Jose, Spring Valley Lake in Milpitas, and Lake Vasona in Los Gatos. Additionally, Lake Cunningham in San Jose will receive 1-pound trout.
• In the San Francisco, Marin, and Sonoma areas, DFG will plant 1-pound trout in Lake Chabot in Vallejo, Scottsdale Pond in Novato, Bon Tempe Reservoir in Fairfax, and South Lake Merced in San Francisco. Additionally, Lake Ralphine in Santa Rosa will receive 1- to 3-pound trout.

Looks like someone in DFG needs a map. Quarry in Fremont. Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton and Chabot Lake in Castro Valley. I know Chabot is a fairly large lake but it isn't that big to extend all the way to Vallejo which is a least 20 mile from Castro Valley?

Bill -

Spring valley lake is a complete joke.  Don't bother going there unless you want to catch old boots or diapers.  Used to live down the street near old calaveras and would hit it up after a supposed stock.  It's a definite pass.  Especially after it rains, it turns into a gigantic mudbowl.  Not sure if they even let yaks on the water.

WOW...!!! A plant at Vasona. Does anybody even fish there anymore??? I haven't fished there in like forever. And when I did, it was strictly only for bass.

Thought there are signs at lake elizabeth saying don't eat the fish due to contamination and/or mercury levels...?

Spring valley lake, is this the one up calaveras road? if so, it's rather small and without rain looks like a mudbowl....

I am 10 minutes from Vasona, where is the launch there? I have seen a few people float tubing in there before with a little bit of success.

Just go in the regular entrance and go left at the split (Pepper Tree Ln.). The parking / launch is on the right. It costs to get in and launch. I believe $5 to get in and $5 to launch. Lemme know when you go, that's right in my backyard.  :smt003
