When installing rails do guys use hardware provided or is there plate you use on underside or something.  Seems like screws it comes with are small and nothing to cause it from ripping out of yak

They make plates (I think) for the backside.  I try to ALWAYS use stainless hardware, nylock nuts & fender washers.  If I can't reach the location for nuts/washers, I try to rethink the plan.

Yes you need a backing plate. Either buy the Yakattack fullback & rigging bullets. Or make a backing plate out of cutting board then use the rigging bullets (unless you can reach the area inside the hull...then you wouldn't need the rigging bullets).

Before you try to mount a gear track in a spot on the gunwale of your kayak, reach inside the kayak and feel the inside of that spot to determine if the area is flat enough so you can use a backing bar or a backing plate under the track, and to see if there are any obstacles inside that portion of the gunwale.  If the area is large and flat, you can use a backing plate or bar.  If the area is somewhat curved, you may need to use stainless steel fender washers under the locking nuts.  If necessary, you can bend some of the fender washers to fit the curvature of the inside of the gunwale. If the area is narrow and highly curved, such as the area under the gunwales of a Hobie Revolution in the area in front of the pockets, it may not be possible to use even small fender washers because the area in which the bolts would be located is at too steep of an angle.  In those situations, you can buy the Yak Attack GT175 wide gear tracks, which have two rows of holes along their sides, and can mount them from the outside with screws.

I have 2 gt90 8".. not installed.. new.  PM me if you want to buy..

I just have the 12 in the front and use larger washers behind..   You can buy the backing plate seperate they make them for each individual size by inch.

the gt90 gunmetal ones are aluminum.. the color ones are plastic.

the ones with 2 parallel screws are aluminum, and are lower profile.

Can't find backing for aluminum one unless I'm missing it. Or are 2 needed cause mount holes are on sides  not down the middle.
