Only time I ever fell out of my kayak was my pathetic attempt at spear fishing with BigJim and others down at SWS. We paddled outside the cove and it was a bit rough. Nothing horrible, I was fine paddling the yak but once I got in the water the surge made me super sea sick. After I had given up all hope of trying to spear any fish, we were paddling back to to the cove when I reached back to dislodge something uncomfortable on my seat. I looked over my shoulder and  completely lost all sense of stability and just plopped into the water. About as boring of a swim story as you can get. My yak didn't even tip over. The only thing bruised was my ego :)

True SLAMDOWN by your son.  :smt044

And the guy in the Video I wonder if he sold his yak after that. I give him an A for effort.

I feel bad for this guy.  But its funny as hell.  Im no expert when it comes to launching, since I get wet 50% of the time.   Not sure why he wants to launch in the corner where the wave crosses back from the rock.

Me too.  Kinda painful to watch all the same. It's amazing just how defeated he looks and how early on he looks that way.  Poor guy.  Super glad he didn't make it out.  I think a landing would've killed him!

He's lucky he didn't break any bones. I'm sure he was badly bruised. He let waves smash the soaked boat into his legs a few times. That is a good lesson about what we should never do.

That video was hilarious until it wasn't.  You can have too much determination…

The first time I ever flipped was my first time crabbing at HMB.  I had a trap on my lap and wasn't paying attention and probably got bumped by a ripple and fell off.  That water was so cold, in my mind, I got back onto the kayak in about a second.

I also realise that I suck at beach launches and landings. HMB (my regular haunt) is EZ-mode.  The two times I've launched from Capitola recently were sphincter-tightening.

Lucky! The steepness of the beach should have been an indicator of what the surf is capable of. Bean Hollow can be a very heavy tall break as you can see in the video. I am new to the kayaking scene but have been to Bean Hollow many times. It usually looks like that. Glad the dude made it without major issue.

Second time out ever and I was by myself. Was fishing live bait on a 3 way swivel and hooked into 40 inch ling cod. When I went to net the fish it ran hard, problem was the weight had got tangled in the net. I didn't realize until it was to late....

Was in Santa Cruz for the second week of rockfish season this year. It wasn't great conditions, but they weren't bad either. After not catching anything for about an hour I got a nice size fish on. Pulled it up and it was a huge vermillion.

I reached down to grab it with the boga... A little wave compounded with a boat wake, that I didn't see, and I tipped the yak. The vermillion went down to the bottom with my rod and reel (I now leash my rod). Luckily my Boga was strapped to my wrist.

Kayak flipped. I think I had my kayak righted and back on in about 3 seconds.

That was the first, and only time, I have flipped my kayak unintentionally. Lost my rod and had to come back in. On a high note... My dry suit worked perfectly.

It's amazing how just a small lapse in concentration can mess your day up.
