did you get the DF&G Group permit yet?

I sent in the request a few weeks ago and you should have gotten by now...

Got it, Thanks and Redding DF&G mailed a stack of blank permits for future events.

Update for tomorrow:

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Had a three participants cancel in the last couple days, right now we have 5 confirmed and 4 maybe's.

We are launching at Marina Park on N. Marina Dr. in Lake California, if you need directions let me know.

The security gate will have list with your names on it, if any problem have them give me a call 410-310-1586

Some participants have their own fishing gear. A couple haven't kayaked before.

I fished the lake a couple days ago, small plastics work well, especially tubes. Rigging for weedless will help, there are a couple guys that haven't fished in a very long time, simpler the better.

I will bring plenty of worms, if bass aren't biting plenty of panfish around.

Lunch is around 12, over at the clubhouse under the trees, barrel chicken. Will have plenty of water.

Since this is our first Shasta HOW event wanted to share a couple things I learned from orientation.

HOW recommend two guides/assistants for each participant first time, with minimum of one guide so our numbers are about right. Have 9 volunteers right now.

PFD's are required at all times OTW, if a participant or volunteer doesn't want to wear PFD, they will be asked to not to go out in a kayak.

Waivers have to be signed by everyone involved.

Don't believe it is an issue but no alcohol allowed at HOW events

Any questions PM or email blr.rusk@gmail.com

Thanks Bryan for doing this, what time should the volunteers be there ?
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Had a great first event today, all the veterans caught some fish, they all said they had a great time and looked forward to next event, most hadn't been in kayak before and hadn't fished in a very long time. Here are a couple pictures to get us started.

Thanks to all the volunteers, glad to finally meet some of you that I had only communicated with on NCKA. Please post any pictures you have.

Well, it was pretty damn cool. I took the Josh and Josh team on a little trek once I knew that they were used to their boats (Bryan's Hobie and a Headwaters Hobie.) We only got to fish for about an hour and a half between launch and lunch, but both guys were impressed with kayak fishing and were talking about the therapeutic value of it. Of course we struck up quite a bit of conversation about kayak fishing in our area and both guys quickly responded "yes" when asked if they'd do it again.

I learned a couple things that we might want to focus on for next time: we have no problem getting the word out. The emails are a helluva tool for that.

A lot of these guys have a family and work. If we shoot to get more guys on board, it needs to happen on a Saturday or Sunday. The one Josh took a day off of work for the event. He told me that there were three more heros he works with that wanted to join us, but they couldn't get the time off.

The two guys I took out were interested in keeping fish. Shasta might be worth looking into for a possible venue.

It went smooth, it was awesome, and I can't wait for our next event. Thanks to our sponsors and especially Bryan who brought everything together, did the footwork, and made it happen despite his hardship. Last but not least, thanks to our heros!
