where would you go yak fishing?

I'm planning on taking some kind of cool trip over the xmas break and am considering places like AZ, NV or even Baja if there was someplace cool for winter fishing not too much further than San Felipe.  My preferences are for the cheap and unstructured.  I'm not really leaning one way or the other on type of species, tackle, water, etc.

BTW - If anybody is up for making a trip I can carry another yak and lots of gear in my truck.  More people needs more vehicals but I'm up for whatever might come together.

Thanks in advance.  Chris

1. Rouge River steelhead.
2. Trinity River steelhead.

There are probably a million other rivers in OR that fish well in late December. Just not sure about kayaking them.

Exactly.  I'm thinking Baja would be my first choice but I'm not sure what's up with the wind and weather this time of year.  Folks mostly seem to go down there between April and November.

If not baja my second choice might be the Lake Meade area.

I'd go regardless and choose a spot near a panga operation so I'd be able to fish cheaply if yaking it was out of the question.  Spring, summer and fall might be the most productive times for the headliner species rather than a weather reflection, Jmairey is probably a better source for that kind of info.  I've never been to MX and not had a blast (even when not fishing :smt002).  It seems like no matter what you're looking for there is something for everybody and fishing won't be your only option.  I was in TJ last weekend and seen a ton of returning vacationers at the border crossing loaded with surf gear, dirtbike/quads, and mountain bikes, completely different from shacking up with a bunch of dudes for a 10 day trip  :smt001

Yeah - I am hoping he'll kick me down a suggestion on where to go in Baja.  Is there any freshwater fishing in baja (ie . . in case of bad sea conditions)?

I'm planning a pig hunting trip up north.  My buddy has access to a couple of ranches.  Hopefully I'll have a pic that is half as impressive as Jelly's!

Ken, I'm a man of limited means...........my fun is inhibited by its price  :smt003

I'm not knockin LR, within the next year or two I will go on a 10 dayer and witness the rain of pelagics flying over the rail but for a cheap unstructured trip with only a month to plan I'd drive south.
