I've been lurking around the past couple of months to garner some intel on what I should buy as my first kayak.  Unfortunately I do not posses the funds for what I really wanted.  Having moved out here last year from the east coast I have enjoyed fishing from the surf but wanted to explore kayak fishing.

When the cl ad came up for this beast I really didn't have a choice but to go down to Santa Cruz and take a look.  No pictures were posted but it said it was a wilderness ride with paddle, seat, motor, sail and rudder for $350.

Brought her home, started working on fixing some of the easier stuff.  Turns out it had a custom made jib as well as a Hobie main sail and an outrigger(center board).  The old Johnson 2HP fired right up and it has more attachments than Batman's utility belt.

I'll take my time with gearing up properly(PDF, radio, etc) and want to at least try to sail and engine the craft before I decide whether to strip it down to the bare bones for just fishing.  I'm right near the HMB harbor, so that is where I will do my trial runs.

Does anyone know this kayak?  I'm sure it would induce a double take from more seasoned yakers.  Kind of hoping to find the original owner that must have put some serious time and thought into it.

Anyway, I clearly have jumped right into the madness and I'm grinning ear to ear!

if you sell that sail and motor I bet you could get the boat you want! Be careful with that rig there is a lot going on there. A spill in that thing may be a nightmare to re enter. The boat itself is fine. I know there are a few ride peeps that will chime in

WELCOME!

Thanks Eric,

Yeah, if I fall off, I'm most likely going to impale myself onto either the cross mount for the sail or the engine mount right behind the seat.

I kind of suspect whomever had this boat before definitely did some long tours.  There are holders for the sail/mast, next the the paddle holders but both are on the aluminum cross beams.

I'll take my time with it and hope to be able to join some of you by the early summer for some fishing.

Wow that's a crazy setup! One of a kind for sure. I have never seen a WS Ride w/a sail & motor! Congrats on a great deal too btw.
I'd like to see some pics of the motor mount and the cross beams where the mast mounts.

Thanks guys,  got it out on the water last week.  It didn't sail all that fast but I wasn't using the gib :smt044

Haven't tried it with the engine but that is most likely getting sold to buy some other gear to outfit the boat with.

Here are a few more pics of the cross-members.  The mast just goes into the base for a 'Fish on' rod holder.

Hello VHS...you really should let me take your "yacht" out for a demo with the motor and sails.  That kayak looks fun.

I am guessing the motor was needed because previous owner couldn't tack well :smt003
