foam for transducer

If they are really long, you can always get a knee board for gardening and cut to size.  Sometimes not very thick though, so double it up and goop together.  Personally, I'm still using the Duct Seal, going on my 3rd year without replacing it.

Sort of... it picks up a lil bit of grit and sand    but it's pretty much inert.  A little softer when hot outside.  I transport upside down and never have had it fall off.  And I pull my ducer out every trip.

I finished installing an Elite 4 HDI a month ago on my RTM Abaco and used foam blocks I get occasionally from work.
 Like anything, everyone has their way of doing things, I'm no different.
I had a water bath before , so I went with it again. The 50/200 transducer is big so noodles wouldn't work. So I came up with this, it's what i had to work with. The battery is in a waterproof case and wedged tight with custom cut  foam blocks. More foam is cut to hold the transducer  just right. Since it is open cell foam I had to put a  thin coat of Marine goop wherever water is present, not a big thing.  Things came out well, no leaks, good reception, I'm happy!

Where'd you stash the battery?

The best source for closed cell foam sheets is available at all hardware and nursery stores. Just buy one of the garden kneeling pads. It's the right stuff. Dense closed cell foam, usually 1" thick. I use it for all sorts of stuff including mounting transducers. If you cut it a bit smaller than the transducer and push it in. It will hold water even when the boat is upside down. Only needs a couple tablespoons of water to work. When I glue it to the bottom of a kayak, I use 3M 6000 goop, sand the plastic and set a lead anchor on it for a day. Never leaks.
