I recently acquired a Uniden BC75XLT handheld scanner, but I don't really need it. I've only used it for about 4 hours. Otherwise it's brand new. Retail is $100. You can have this one for $60. Send me a PM if interested.

It picks up police/fire/emergency frequencies, as well as aircraft transmissions and UHF/VHF signals. So you can listen to the salmon fleet from your living room. I already programmed all the Monterey Co stations including local police/fire depts.
Here is some good info about it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A1VSO9M/ref=pe_344980_136097110_em_1p_0_ti

And here's a video review:

Here's a list of all the channels registered w/the FCC: http://www.interceptradio.com/fcc_county.php?sstate=CA&scounty=Monterey
When I was setting it up, I was able to hear the Jack in the Box drive thru!

there is a couple of free scanners apps available for your phone too. interesting to turn on when you hear all the activity going on in Vallejo.
I have heard people taken down by police dogs and guys getting zap  by them too. kind of funny, cop tells them not to do something and they don't listen, then here comes the zap...

I used to love scanners!  I even was able to hear my name and dl number when I was pulled over once! :smt005  And listening to phone calls was far too easy back then.  Heard some crazy shit listening into my neighbors conversations!  And the drive through was always good for a laugh!  :smt044
