I actually stock pile jumbo minnows, got a small pond built in the backyard FULL of jumbo minnows, when I want to go fishing I just put in a minnow trap the night before and get them in the morning! ALWAYS fresh :smt003
Give a man a fish and he'll eat a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit on the water all day with a stick in his hand and no fish.

If you spend a little time catching small bluegill 3 to 4 inches it works to catch larger stripers. Works well in the Delta.
Don't get caught using bluegill for bait.

Maybe I should have said you can use them in the Delta west of Highway 5. Liz Schwall the DFG question and answer warden told me it was legal to do so.

The Q&As are not particularly clear. Not allowed in several districts. West of Highway 5? Have to make sure the area fished is not considered part of the North Coast District.

Jumbo minnows work. But I prefer to use bullheads or mudsuckers.
