Will these be allowed to compete in AOTY? Thinking about getting one and want to know. Thanks Committee!

Is this a trick question?  :smt005
After the discussion about sails, we decided not to make any exceptions for 2015 AOTY. And this type of vessel seems more like an "exception" than a standard kayak-fishing platform that participants use while competing in AOTY. I haven't seen any reports on NCKA from canoes or similar hybrids, so there doesn't appear to be any demand to include them. And if we start making exceptions for one single person who may or may not be trying to game the system & gain an advantage...then...what's the point?

However, we are willing to consider it for the 2016 competition if someone can prove that it does not provide an advantage over traditional kayaks. I suppose the first step would be to gauge the level of interest (of current/past participants) by creating a poll. If the majority of participants agree to allow canoes or SUPs or rafts, then we can make the change for 2016. But the rules for 2015 are set.

Looks like a sit in kayak more than a canoe, Paddles like a kayak therefore I would say it is a kayak.  I would love to check one of these out.

It's made by old town, which is a canoe company.  The Native FX is made by Native, which doesn't state it a a canoe company. So by transitive property, the Next is a Canoe, and the FX is a kayak, even though they are essentially the same boat design.

I'm kidding, obviously.  I think we could expand the human powered watercraft element, although I care more about SUPs than hybrid sit inside.

That sure looks like it would be a heck of a lot of fun to paddle on a nice high Sierra lake!
