Skill is a factor when choosing a boat.  Which why I went with Hobie Quest to start with, now that I have a few years and am a more comfortable paddler and have paddled some other boats that are a lot more skinnier I feel ready to cross over to a boat that tracks better, may be lighter, cuts through the waves rather than ride up and down over everything. Still looking, waiting for the right boat at the right price.

Well now that you mention it, Rob. I haven't seen the new ULs in person either. So I was just assuming the center hatch would be angled (like the T140 & 160). But it's hard to tell based on all the pics I see online.
Come on, you can fit a rod in the center hatch? Didn't notice that it was "angled" that much.
Must be really flexible or have a short handle, you remove the reel right?

Yup, when they changed the hatches from tupperware-style to Orbix in 2009, I bought a T140 specifically for that feature...already owned 2 of the original Tarpons. But first I walked into the store with my rods and tested it to make sure they fit. I just slide them in and unscrew the reel seat (but leave the line rigged up instead of cutting it). Easy peasy.

Thanks CC, I am going to give that a try. May need to buy another rod but the old Ugly Stick was getting kinda limp anyways :).

I really love  the Tarpon and don't have anymore room (or extradition $) for the Thresher ....yet.

I wonder if anybody has tried to install a larger hatch on the bow, like this square one from OK.

thresher 155 + 250lb Weimarian + 50 lb gear + 10 odd lb of bait/lunch= no water in the foot wells, awesome stability, paddles fast and smooth, Glides forever... I have had so many different kayaks and paddled all the rest. This kayak by far is my favorite! Still attaching more goodies and loving it more and more each time out...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan
