As you will recall I registered the domain name Yak-Angler. I did not realize it at the time, there is a site called YakAngler.com. My fault, I didn’t do any research; after being informed of the other guys, by Allen Pole-Pole (our Administrator) I thought best to contact the management at YakAngler to see if they had concerns, and they did.

YakAngler management requested I not use their name with a dash in the middle for the new website. They did however think the screen name Yak-Angler here and on other forums was a good name, so it stays.

Rather than make demands, management at the YakAngler site were very pleasant and gracious enough to make it worth my while to change the name. The have bought all rights and are the new proud owner of the name Yak-Angler in .com, .net and .org. buying the registration of those names protects them for the future.

I’m out some time but I’m very pleased with YakAngler’s management. I still as yet have not visited their Website, been too busy; however, I’m invited to share some of my write-ups and stories with them and they want to do a piece on their Website introducing my new site after it is launched; definitely, nice people.

I found a new set of names to register: KayakOwners.com, I’ve Googled every combination of that name I could think of and I’m pretty sure It is safe so that’s the name I’ll stay with. I like the new name much better for what I want the Website to do, which is; feature Kayak Owners, their Kayaks and the fishing they do.

We’ve bought unlimited bandwidth, meaning there is no limit to the number of photos on the site and every photo will enlarge to 1200x857 - the equivalent of a 14x10 print photo (using a good printer, suitable for framing). A few of the best photos will be sized at 1600x900, 1920x1280 or 2500x1400, which are great sizes for wide-screen monitor backgrounds.

All enlargements presented without worries our Internet host will throttle the delivery and make the photos smaller than we intend.

The goal of KayakOwners.com:
Provide high quality photos to the aspiring kayak buyer, as well as the seasoned kayak owner. It is our hope the large detailed photos will help people decide which new or used fishing kayaks they would like to look into further; I believe doing this will help grow our sport and make us stronger.

If we are not unified and strong we can become just like other sports that became regulated to the point the sport dies; off road users know what I’m referring to.

If for any reason anyone believes KayakOwners.com is a violation of another’s trademark, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Sounds like a marriage; and is sort of.

Thanks, I hope to do a good job for you. I’ll let you all know when we go live.

I don't think kayakowners.com can be ur or anyone's trademark at all because of the descriptive nature of the mark. You prolly wd not b able to register that domain name as a TM at the USPTO on the principal register wo first establishing acquired distinctiveness.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I was being facetious with the forever hold your peace remark. Trying to interject a little humor to ease the idiot luck I had with the other name.

I do appreciate the link; that sort of thing is way above my head though; I'd like to say I leave that sort of stuff to the attorneys. But then again, that's part of the reason to pick a generic name for the Website. I don't think anyone would care, much less consider it a violation and the link bears me out (I think... LOL).

The reason for the post was to put a few peoples mind at ease who thought the other name was inappropriate. It may have been, but most important to me was how management at www.YakAngler.com treated the situation; much better than I had anticipated.

so what is it that this site will do that others (and NCKA) already do?  i'm confused, but that happens alot to me.

if i read it right:
Pictures of different kayaks, in action, to help non kayakers figure out what kayak looks best, if they were inside of it, doing the same.

Maximum Capacities and REAL_Life experiences from those who paddle them makes the most sense......this already happens here at NCKA.ORG.

However, pictures are nice and those are what this place has been built on.  :smt002

You'll need to provide specs of some sort to really help anyone. I might think a kayak looks great, but then learn it is 36" wide or weighs 95lbs or something and I'll know it isn't right for me.

The issue is that one can already find photos of any kayak manufactured, and yet IRL the answer is always the same, and that answer is: "test paddle".

Thanks for the well wishes LoletaEric...

To answer how we will differ is going to be hard until the site has been operational for a year or so, until then I'll say: The Website won't come close to replace or even compete with Websites such as NCKA or NWKA; fact is I believe it will enhance these forums and bring new members.

If the site was around when I first began looking for a kayak, there is a good chance I would not have bought the one I did; but all is okay, it's sold now and I'm buying what I should have bought to begin with (after proper demos).

I would hope the Website helps people decide which kayaks to look at and which ones to demo. I believe with good detailed photos; virtually twice as large as what is available on most forums, links to videos, links to forums like this one, lots of factual details and opinions from owners in several photo albums of each model of kayak, it may help others who are considering the sport of kayak fishing.

After a couple of years, we'll see if the Website is helpful and a worthy addition to the sport.; I believe it will be.

Interesting idea. For people like myself who like to research the sh*t out of things before I buy them (or even drive to see them), this could be a good resource. Manufacturer and dealer photos usually leave a lot to be desired. High res, detailed photos, actual dimensions, etc could be helpful. Also examples of fully rigged kayaks, organized by kayak model, would be helpful.

It seems like you can't help but overlap content with what NCKA already offers, but if you're able to organize it in a clear, user-friendly way it could be value added.

I would love a site where I could look at all the different ways people rigged there yaks. Click on a model and have multiple pics of different riggings would be cool. Best of luck on the new site, cant wait to see it. If you want info, pics or anything dealing with the ascend fs-10 just shhot me a pm.
