I picked all these boletus on a job site in North Carolina years ago...I mean there were some huge ones and all different types,,,trees all around a house I was working on and the rolling hills were covered..most I had ever seen..beauties....
so i got home and tried to i.d the best ones and chucked the questionable ones...then we made a big dinner and left some extra ones on a window sill to dry out...ate a bunch with a chicken dinner...did not get sick

the next day I got home from work and the ones that we left on the window sill had melted into black slime and were running down the wall.....WTF

I have some boletus spots I should go check...the poison oak killer me the last few times i went...I think the shrooms absorb the oil from the last seasosn poison oak -out of the ground---or have their own Urushiol oils in the caps....
I got super bad from picking or just touching a slimy cap last time--I think there might be something linked to  wild mushrooms and the oils in the forest

yellow staining agaricus--take you finger nail and swipe it along the stem..it will turn kind of faint yellow

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agaricus_xanthodermus

Agaricus xanthodermus, commonly known as the yellow-staining mushroom or simply the yellow-stainer,[1] is a mushroom of the genus Agaricus, which displays a strong yellow colouration at the base of the stem when cut. It is poisonous for most people, causing gastrointestinal upset, but can be eaten by some without apparent negative effect.

Slight threadjack. Hit Salt Point this morning. It's too dry but did find one wormy bolete and a couple expired chanterelles but the puppy and I had a great hike. We need rain for all our winter (and next summer) games.
