A great video for tying a dropper loop. Practice it at home until it becomes automatic.

I can't tie a dropper loop to save my life.

So...... I tie the teaser with a palomar knot by pinching the line and running through the eye doubled.  Then pull enough through to do a double overhand, pull the loop over the hook and sinch down wet and gently.  The tag end you normally get with the palomar is where my jig head is.  DON'T CUT THE TAG END OFF!!! :smt044

I call it the palomar loop.

yeah...I tried this and had it fail on me twice in one day on biggish lingcod. So I quit using it and went to learning how to tie a dropper loop. I always thought it was odd since I use a palomar on all my swimbait ties and it holds up just fine. Maybe I just had old line or something.

that's good point about the heavier mono Pat, I've only been using it on 30-40lb mono.

I've never tried the figure 8, and will have to give that a shot.  But the DL is pretty awesome, and has so many uses!  For me I need a third hand, or a nail to hook the loop on before cinching it to keep the wraps straight.  And still I dont get it right every time, but it's damn solid when you do!
